The Colca River has its source in the high hills of Yaretane and Torre, located at 4.750 meters above sea level, feeding its waterways primarily with the rain that falls in the hills of the western flank of the Andes and from groundwater (springs) as well as the different streams that are located on both banks.

The Colca River has over 129 km of route, with a southeast-northeast direction, the water drains toward the Pacific Ocean.

THE COLCA RIVER
The left side is flanked by a volcanic mountain range with the volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya and Hualca-Hualca, while on the right side the Chila volcanic mountain range aligns, which includes Mismi (5598 m), where the remote origin of the Amazon River is. The river in. While the river flows it receives several names: At the confluence with the Andamayo river it takes the name of Majes River and at the confluence with the Pucayura river, near the coast, its takes name of Camana River.
In the most part of its route the river is encased in a deep valley bounded by interandean mountain ranges, in the highlands there are a large number of wetlands, product of river filtrations.
there is the total of agricultural activity in these terraces of the Colca region. Streams have nearly vertical slopes, where landslides occur in times of rain, facilitating the presence of lacustrine deposits.
The Colca River presents in its long route narrow funds, usually carved on volcanic rock. In the part of the valley the route does not cut any igneous rock and therefore the channel has a straight line.

RAFTING COLCA RIVER
The Colca River originates in the period of formation of the valley, in the final stage of the uplifting of the Andes mountain range. The deflection of Abancay led to depression, weak areas and high mountains; which controlled the direction of watercourses and drainage basins.

RAFTING COLCA RIVER
Alter all these processes, the current deepening has occurred mostly because of river erosion, that is to say, the breakage of base level due to the sharp and sudden (in geologic time, of course) uplifting of the Andes caused the river to grasp.
The Colca River is especially favorable for rafting; this is done between the months of April and December and presents a river difficulty of classes 2 and 3.
